Marvin Rieli began his professional music career in high school, playing drums in local rock bands, frequenting clubs from Jackson MI, to Toledo OH. After graduation, he enrolled at Jackson College on a full ride music scholarship, where he studied with Silas Yates, who previously taught at the University of Miami in the famed jazz music program (Yates taught many of the 70’s and 80’s music stars who came through Miami’s music school).
After college, Marvin began playing in jazz and blues clubs, in addition to playing in rock bands that recorded original music. When the demand for bands started to wane in the late 90’s, Marvin switched from playing drums, to singing and piano.
During this period, he quickly gained a reputation for being “the piano man” to hire, playing in clubs and restaurants around southern Michigan. This reputation brought Marvin to play at Zydecos in Ann Arbor, where he was on the rotation with legends Bob Schultz and Al Hill, both friends and mentors to Marvin. This experience led to an exclusive house gig at Charlie’s Pub and Grill in Jackson MI, which Marvin held from Feb. 2003 to Jan. 2007, playing every Friday and Saturday night.
In Jan. 2007, Marvin left Michigan for Los Angeles CA, where he quickly gained a reputation on the Hollywood strip, playing at famed clubs The Rainbow Room, and The Piano Bar, as well as private events all over Los Angeles. After 7 1/2 years in LaLa Land, Marvin decided to move home to Michigan to be closer to friends and family, and is proud to be offering his musical gifts once again to Michigan restaurant and club patrons.
